Hello everyone and welcome to my blog dedicated to the project "Brighten Their Christmas!" I am glad you have come to hear the news relating to the trip. For those of you who are not up-to-date with the project, let me fill you in.
It has been over a year now since a magnitude 8.0 earthquake devastated the Country of Peru. In the city of Pisco alone, where the travesty was felt the worse, hundreds of victims lost their lives, homes, and welfare. Children were left to worry about the safety of family and friends. Buildings, Churches, and homes left crumbled to the ground. And now, a year later, some Peruvian children and families are still lining up to receive food, still without electricity, still without water, and still without a healthy home to sleep in. With this, I have strongly felt the need to sacrifice some of my own personal wealth and use the power given to me to do some good for someone who needs it the most. So this Christmas I have the honor to be working side-by-side with two of the most caring residents of Peru.
Garry and Pat Cruce, two of the most honest and giving people I know, have spent their lives being an example by serving others. And this Christmas nothing is different in the Cruce household as they continue their ministry in the Country of Peru. With open arms, Pat and Garry have welcomed me to the far-away region they call home and, are giving me the opportunity to form a project that will ultimately help children and families who, without the help from people like the Cruce's, may find it difficult to even cope at all.
This Christmas, our combined efforts will be focused on ways to "Brighten Their Christmas," namely, brightening the Christmas of children and families that were affected by the 8.0 earthquake of 2007. Our goal is to raise support and give a blessing to families that so desperately need it this Christmas. Gifts are what American's think about during Christmas and children in Peru should have that opportunity too.
But toys are not necessarily at the top of a homeless persons list. So instead of purchasing barbie dolls and dirt bikes, I will be utilizing Pat and Garry, as locals, to determine the necessities that are needed by the locals of Peru and hopefully, with your help too, I can put smiles on faces and give hope to the hopeless this year and "Brighten Their Christmas."
